What are the most common Summer Plumbing Problems?

Posted in news, uncategorized on May 17, 2018

Summer is nearly here and we will all soon be relaxing in the garden enjoying the warm sunshine (we hope!), but Summer can also bring some unexpected Plumbing problems!

Here we tell you what the most common plumbing problems in Summer are:

Blocked Toilets

Blocked toilets are unpleasant, but in the Summer, the warmer weather can make it a much more unpleasant problem to have! If you find you have a blocked toilet, there could be a number of reasons for this. Take care with what you put down the toilet.  Only use toilet paper and avoid flushing baby wipes at all costs! We visit a number of households where baby wipes have caused huge blockages!

Blocked Drains

In Summer family BBQ's are a fantastic way to enjoy the sunshine but our drains aren’t built to handle large amounts of grease, fat or food solids. So when you’re clearing up after a hearty outdoor party, be sure not to wash anything down your kitchen sink that could cause a blockage.

Washing Machine Problems

The summer sees us taking on a variety of outdoor activities, as the weather is (usually) at its finest and we’ll be all be making that extra effort to get out more. Football, rugby, cycling, and running are just a few of the most popular activities, but for the kids, there is also the chance to play out more with their friends.

All this can increase your washing load as you try to keep grass stains and mud out of clothes. If you’ve been on holiday, you’ll no doubt be loading larger washes to get through all the cleaning too. It’s important that you keep your washing machine in the best condition possible though. This means trying to avoid overfilling the drum, ensuring the hose is well maintained and keeping an eye on your machine at all times – you don’t want to come back to a flooded home because of a breakdown.

Drips or leaks from faucets

It’s a good idea to examine all faucets and outside hose bibs to ensure the free flow of water. However, if you turn on a hose for the first time and there is a leak or an outdoor faucet drips, it’s potentially that a frozen pipe has cracked in the winter and needs replacing. It is also practical to open and close any water supply valves found under your sinks or toilets, as this will prevent them from sticking.
